Make Your Own Canvas Art {DIY}

Good morning fellow DIYers!

I redecorated my baby's bathroom and decided to create a few things to go with the fabulous classic children's book, "Where the Wild Things Are."

We painted his bathroom a cool, mint green and added some multicolored chevron pieces to add some "pop" to his bathroom. I got the shower curtain, towels, and bathroom mat at Target (my favorite store :D). Then, I created the wall art based on all of these colors.

I made three different canvas pieces for his bathroom with some "Where the Wild Things Are" quotes. It was fun, easy, and quick!

To make your own canvases, you'll just need these simple supplies:
Paint brushes
Acrylic paint
A computer, printer, and pencils
Paint Pens
Blue painter's tape
And of course, canvases!

Paint your canvases with your choice of color. I painted mine blue, orange, and green.
I decided to use some painter's tape too and make a chevron pattern.

Paint as many layers as you want. It all depends on what kind of shade you want your canvas to be.

While it's drying (wait about an hr or two...although overnight is best) choose a font and a quote you want for your canvas. There are some great fonts on dafont.com. I actually found the "Where the Wild Things Are" font. This font cost $3, but most fonts are free for personal use.

Since I was doing a "Where the Wild Things Are" theme, I chose these quotes:

"We'll eat you up, we love you so!"
"Let the wild rumpus start!"
"King of all the wild things!"

Type up your quotes on your computer in your chosen font. Make sure you pick a good size that will fit your canvas. Print out the quotes.

Cut out the words and shade the back of the paper with a pencil. Make sure you shade a lot!

Place the words on top of your dry canvas and use painter's tape to hold the papers down.

Carefully trace over the letter with a pencil. The shading on the back of your paper will transfer onto your canvas.
If you look closely at this picture you can see the pencil lines.

Carefully, lift the papers off of your canvas and trace your pencil lines with your color choice of paint pen.

Admire and display!

Here are the canvases I made for Baby Jake's bathroom!

I also found this frame that I thought matched his bathroom perfectly. I printed a picture of Max from "Where the Wild Things Are" and I put it in the frame for Jake's bathroom counter.

My next task is to take some pictures from the book and put those in frames and hang those somewhere is Jake's bathroom too!

I hope you have some fun making some canvases. Go WILD!

Chalkboard Printables {DIY and FREE DOWNLOAD}

Happy Monday everybody!

My husband and I have been updating our bedroom with some fresh paint, new decorations, and some DIY projects.

We painted our bedroom with some cool colors from Dunn Edwards: Porpoise and Soft Mint

We took down our bathroom vanity mirror and replaced it with two separate vanity mirrors. We also replaced our large vanity light with two separate lights over our two new mirrors. We also went to Target and Home Goods and went a little crazy! Charge it, as I always say!

After redecorating with new frames and artwork, I had to figure out which artwork would go into my new frames. To keep with the look, I decided to print out some chalkboard quotes that I made on my computer. I took the quotes from one of my favorite country songs, Tim McGraw's "You're My Best Friend." You can download them too, FOR FREE! Just click on my page "Free Stuff" and click on the picture. It fits an 8x10 frame that will hang horizontally. I'll be designing some more printables soon to add to my "Free Stuff" page.

You can always make the printables yourself by finding a chalkboard background and downloading FREE chalkboard fonts from DaFont.com.

Here's a chalkboard background you can use. Save it to your computer.

Open up PowerPoint and set your page to the correct measurement. You can do that by clicking on File and then Page Setup.
Insert the measurement you would like to use.

Once your page is set, click Insert, then Picture from File. Find your chalkboard image that you saved earlier. You can also drag the chalkboard image onto the PowerPoint slide.
Once the image is placed, click the Text Box icon and add your text box. Write whatever you want on your chalkboard image. To make it more genuine, go to DaFont.com and download some chalkboard fonts for FREE.
Here are a list of cute fonts for your chalkboard pictures!
Design your chalkboard art and have fun!

I hope you enjoy the fun of chalkboard art! Have a beautiful week!

Quick and Simple Halloween Decor {DIY}

Fall is my favorite season. I love the colors, holidays, and decorations this time of year brings. I went a little crazy decorating my house for fall this year. I was very excited! I made some cute Halloween decorations that can be used inside or outside for Halloween.

Mummy, Frankenstein, and Pumpkin Pots

They’re quick and easy to make!

You’ll need:
Acrylic paint (orange, black, green, white) and paint brushes

Black paint pen

Clay pots

Googly eyes (optional)

Tacky glue (optional)

Paint the rim of each pot black.

For your Frankenstein pot, paint the rest of the pot green.
For your pumpkin pot, paint the rest of the pot orange.
For your mummy (or ghost) pot, paint the rest of the pot white.

Frankenstein:
Once your pot is dry, you can use a black paint pen to draw eyebrows. Use your tacky glue to adhere some googly eyes to your Frankenstein. Add some stitches and a squiggly smile and you’ve got your Frankenstein! You can plant some real flowers into this pot, or fill it with artificial flowers or tiny pumpkins.

Pumpkin:
Once your pot is dry, use the black paint pen to draw triangle eyes, and upside down triangle nose, and a cute, crooked smile. Fill it with something fun!

Mummy or Ghost:
Once it has dried, use your black paint pen to draw lines for the bandages. Draw eyes coming out of the bandages. If you want to draw a ghost, just use your black paint pen to draw two large black eyes and a large mouth.

Once you have finished your crafts, display your new Halloween decorations!

Happy crafting and Happy Halloween!

How to Make Rustic Mason Jars {Simple and Easy}

Happy Monday!

I am OBSESSED with mason jars. Like. Seriously. OBSESSED.

I love their look and style all around my house. We just recently painted our master bedroom and I made some mason jars to match the new look.

It's super easy! You just need the following materials:
Mason Jars, Acrylic Paint, Paint Brushes, and Sand Paper

First, take off the rings and lids from the mason jars. Save those because I'll be posting a fun DIY pumpkin you can make with the jar rings.

You can also use the lid to place your jar while it's drying.

Paint the jars with the acrylic paint of your choice. Wait an hour and paint another coat. Let them dry over night.

The next day, lightly sand the jars. Use the sand paper to give them a rustic look. Just cut a small square from the large sand paper piece and sand away!

Then display them and enjoy!
Happy crafting!

How to Make a Burlap Wreath {Simple and Easy}

I have been seeing the wonderful burlap wreaths all over Pinterest. So, I decided to make one of my own while my baby naps! It only took me about 15 minutes.

Here's what you'll need:

A wire wreath (I chose a large wire wreath from Michael's for three bucks!)

A bundle of burlap (I needed 1.5 bundles for my large wreath. They were on sale for two bucks at Michael's!)

A ribbon of your choice (I chose a fun Halloween burlap ribbon, again...from Michael's!)

Tacky Glue (Make sure it dries clear!) and Wire (maybe some wire cutters too)

Cute artificial flowers of your color choice

And these instructions:

1. Start with the end of the burlap roll.

2. Fold it in half.

3. Fold it in half again.

4. Secure the folded piece to the inside ring of the wired wreath. Use a piece of wire to secure it tightly. Just wrap it around.

5. Pull the burlap through each section of the wired wreath, creating a loop.

6. After you have put the burlap through each section of the wired wreath, twist the burlap together on the other side of the wreath.

7. Repeat the process by pulling the burlap through the slots again.

8. Continue until the wreath is complete!
Secure the burlap to the wreath with some wire.

After assembling your wreath, cut your flowers from the stems and use your tacky glue to glue on your flowers and ribbon.

I tied my Halloween ribbon at the top and glued my flowers around the wreath.

You can decorate your wreath any way you want!

I am so excited to create one for Thanksgiving and Christmas!

Here's my little porch with some of my fall decorations.

Happy crafting!
